What is Health Information Management?
HIM professionals care for patients by managing, analyzing, and securing all of their protected (PHI) no matter the format. They are highly trained in the business aspects of healthcare, understand health organization workflows, and take on leadership and compliance roles.
We plan, organize, oversee, and follow up on all activities related to the HIM department and the integrity of clinical and financial data. Ensure that healthcare providers can access accurate and complete patient health information when and where they need it.
What is Health Information Technology?
HIT professionals handle the technical aspects of managing patient health information. They have a keen understanding of how to capture appropriate data and make it accessible to providers so it can be used for decision support to improve patient care.
We build, implement, and support electronic health records and other systems that store patient-related data. Understand what data is needed, where it is stored, and how the data is used.

HIMS Manager, County of Santa Clara Health System
As part of my role, I provided support to various programs and sites, including ambulatory, IP & OP behavioral health, and custody health. Through the development of SharePoint sites and leveraging Power Automate, I have successfully enhanced productivity and efficiency between HIMS and departments throughout the county. Additionally, I am actively engaged in a county-wide initiative to transition document management systems.
2021-2022
HIMS Manager, Sutter Health
As part of my role, I provided primary support for ambulatory and acute hospitals, where I spearheaded the development of a SharePoint site for the HIMS Department, resulting in improved efficiency and transparency across the health system. Through the creation of dashboards and reports, I identified and communicated trends to the executive team, leading to increased compliance and a reduction in deficiency rates.

HIMS Supervisor, County of Santa Clara Health System
As part of my role, my primary focus was on supporting custody health and behavioral health. To improve communication between the different programs in behavioral health and HIMS, I developed groups in Microsoft Teams and a SharePoint site.

Asst. HIM Director, San Joaquin General Hospital
As a leader in this role, I managed a team of over 43 FTE, including remote coders. Through collaboration with various departments, I spearheaded project initiatives that greatly enhanced communication and compliance.

Lead Medical Coding Specialist, Sante Health System
In this role, I spearheaded process improvement and quality enhancement initiatives that substantially reduced claim submission timelines from 6 months to just 1 month. I collaborated closely with providers and prioritized addressing medical record documentation deficiencies, delivering education and feedback on documentation improvement and medical necessity.

During my tenure in this position, I was acknowledged for setting the standard for best practices in the HIM department. I served as a trainer and resource for the organization as a whole, and played a key role in the successful transition to a new EHR system.
